San Diego Studios has announced the cover athlete for the upcoming, MLB The Show 21. Fernando Tatis Jr of the San Diego Padres is set to be the next athlete for the popular series. Tatis Jr, also known as “El Niño,” was one of the premiere players in the 2020 season who helped lead his team to its first playoff appearance is 14 years. This marks the first Padres player to grace the cover of a major sports title in franchise history.
With this announcement also comes the reveal of an Xbox version. Previously, the franchise had been a PlayStation exclusive and had even made appearances during Sony’s E3 press conferences. In addition to this, it was also unveiled that this is set to feature cross platform play between the Xbox series of consoles and that of PlayStation’s. Cross progression is also available for players, as well. This means that users can switch between Xbox and PlayStation consoles while still carrying over their unique data.
The upcoming baseball game launches April 20, 2021 with standard editions on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 being $59.99, while the next-gen versions retail at $69.99. MLB The Show 21 is also planning a collector’s edition featuring a special hat, steelbook, DLCs, and Jackie Robinson on the cover.
