While we cannot wait to get our hands on Super Mario Odyssey ourselves, EDGE Magazine has already written their review and has given it a perfect score. EDGE has previously given 19 other games a 10, including Breath of the Wild, another Nintendo Switch title. That means 10% of the “perfect” scores EDGE has given out has been to Switch titles. A six-month old console. Impressive, no? Again, six months.
Without a doubt video game fans and Nintendo fans alike will be arguing furiously over whether Breath of the Wild or Super Mario Odyssey deserves Game of the Year, even before the latter releases on October 27. It will be a difficult decision, and while we still believe that Zelda will edge Mario out, there’s always the chance that we’re wrong; we need to play the game first before making any definitive assertions.
Regardless, this is just proving our point even more that this is Nintendo’s year. They released not only one of the most innovative consoles of all time, but two of the greatest games of all time in two of the most revered franchises of all time. It doesn’t get better than that.
Whether Zelda or Mario wins Game of the Year is irrelevant. Gamers are the ones who win.
