Nintendo started out their E3 2021 Nintendo Direct out with a total fakeout. It showed Ganondorf, of all characters, being thrown off of a cliff. This is the second time in a row Nintendo has begun their Direct with a fakeout, as last time it appeared that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 would be announced. Instead, Mythra and Pyra were announced for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It appeared that this would be a Legend of Zelda announcement. Instead, it was an announcement for Super Smash Bros.Ultimate at E3. Masahiro Sakurai unveiled the newest addition to the hit fighter, Kazuya, from Tekken. This is yet another crossover between Smash and another franchise outside of the Nintendo family of games, which shows once again the sheer power of Smash Bros. While I myself am not a huge Tekken fan, this is a great addition to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate family for the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo began their 40-minute E3 2021 presentation out with a bang, and although an Ocarina of Time announcement would have been killer, that’s okay. Any Smash announcement is a good announcement, and we’ve had a steady amount of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fighter announcements over the last few months, which is fantastic. Kazuya is sure to be a stellar addition to the Smash family and Sakurai will be hosting a deep-dive into the character on June 28.
