One of the biggest surprises of Nintendo’s Direct was the inclusion of Pyra and Mythra, from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Nintendo announced ahead of time that there would be a Smash announcement, but no one expected the duo from Xenoblade 2 to come to Nintendo’s hit fighting game on the Switch. When I was watching the Direct’s cold open, I thought it was a sequel to Xenoblade, but the Smash announcement was just as sweet. As a Xeno fan and a Smash Ultimate player, I’m ecstatic about the opportunity to play as two of my favorite characters of all-time in Smash. It helps that Masahiro Sakurai is a fan of Xenoblade Chronicles 2. It was announced that on March 4, there’s going to be a deep-dive into the characters. Now, it appears that the release date for Pyra and Mythra in Smash has been revealed. On Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate website, it says that Pyra and Mythra will release in March of 2021. This means that, theoretically and realistically, the DLC could be available for purchase later that day. If not the 4th, it will be available in March. You can purchase the fighter pack, which also includes Sephiroth, Steve & Alex, and Min Min from Arms, or you can purchase Mythra and Pyra individually for $5.99 USD. Pyra and Mythra come with one new stage and new musical tracks.
