According to Kawakubo Shintaro, Hajime Isayama’s editor, Chapter 138 of the Attack on Titan manga is finished and ready to be published. It will be formally published on March 9 (Japanese time.) Chapter 138 is the second-to-last chapter and the penultimate chapter in the series, with Attack on Titan ending in chapter 139 (ironically, 13 years, 9 titans.) Attack on Titan has been a hit phenomenon since it was first released in 2009, and has had a solid run of 12 years. It then made its way into an anime series, which caused the franchise to explode in popularity in Japan and abroad. The Attack on Titan: The Final Season is currently airing and tomorrow its eighth episode drops. Note: After the Tweet, there will be spoilers for the Attack on Titan manga up to chapter 137.

Chapter 137 was one hell of a chapter. Armin and Zeke, in the PATHS world, meet the deceased Titan shifters who have been slaves to the Founding Titan’s power in the outside world. Armin figures out that PATHS is a world without death, and has a conversation with Bertholdt. Zeke sees his father and his father-figure. Armin and Zeke, in unison, ask the Titan shifters for their help in stopping the Rumbling and saving Armin’s comrades. Armin and Zeke actually escape the PATHS world, when Zeke said in the beginning that there is no way to escape, which could have significance in the next chapter: is Eren trapped in PATHS? He didn’t die, because as a rule, no body, no death. Armin nuked the Founding Titan with his transformation into the Colossal Titan after saying goodbye to Eren and letting go of his attachment to his former best friend. So much happened, yet so much was set up for the final two chapters. We still haven’t seen Eren’s point of view throughout this whole ordeal, and it is most likely something that will come next chapter. What exactly is his plan? What is his goal and what does he want?

attack on titan end

There will most likely be a confrontation between Armin and Eren next chapter, as that is what all of this setup points to. What will happen? Isayama is so unpredictable and he will subvert our expectations, but how? We’ll have to wait roughly a week to find out, and I’m sure Isayama-san is hard at work on the finale of his masterpiece, Attack on Titan.
