The first 10 minutes of Evangelion 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time has been posted online. This footage was previously shown to those who attended Anime Expo 2019. The film has been delayed multiple times since the COVID outbreak scrapped their plans for an April release date of last year. They tried to do a release in late January, but this didn’t take, and that’s what has brought us to the predicament we’re in now. The Evangelion Rebuild has been a very long project, spanning 14 years (or 12 if you’re in North America.) The series is still regarded as one of the most revolutionary and greatest anime series of all-time. Hideaki Anno is a genius. When it was released, there was nothing like Evangelion. He single-handedly revolutionized anime and informed it into the medium it’s become today.
Without subs, it’s hard to see what’s going on, but as I saw this with subs I can give somewhat of a brief overview. Somehow, Wille has discovered the technology to undo the damage done by the 3rd Impact (or 4th? are we still counting here?). They restore the majority of Paris to how it used to be before the Impacts. There are some fights in between, but at the end, we get a scene with Mari, who said that no matter what, she’d always come back to find her puppy. Then it ends. So is going off to find Shinji now? We cannot wait for Evangelion 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon A Time, which will be the final installment in Hideaki Anno’s legendary Neon Genesis Evangelion Saga. If the first Ten minutes are anything to go on, Evangelion 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time should be a fitting end to a near-30 year journey.
