Nintendo Switch sales have soared for Nintendo in the latest financial quarter, according to Nintendo’s latest financial report. Early on in the pandemic due to COVID-19, and even right now, it has been difficult to find a Nintendo Switch, as people are at home and bored out of their minds. This is probably a contributing factor to the high sales numbers, but there’s more to it than that. The Nintendo Switch has broken a record, selling 11.57 million units last quarter, which is more than the Wii ever sold in one quarter. The Nintendo Wii was Nintendo’s last financial hit and sold over 100 million units over the course of its lifespan. The Nintendo DS, which also sold incredibly well, only had two quarters where it sold more in a single quarter, for comparison’s sake. As the Switch is both a portable and home-console system, the comparison is apt. The Nintendo Switch is a worldwide phenomenon, and depending on how long its lifespan is, could take over the Nintendo Wii in overall sales. It has better software, it’s a better piece of hardware, and has the appeal of being both a portable and a home console system. It doesn’t have any other piece of Nintendo hardware to compete with. The Nintendo Switch’s sales for Nintendo are very impressive, and given the state of global affairs, the fact that it’s selling better than ever highlights this fact.
