With the release of Nintendo’s latest financial report comes a slew of news concerning hardware and software sales. Nintendo revealed that Pikmin 3 Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch is now the best-selling Pikmin game of all-time. It was already the best-selling Pikmin game in Japan; now, that figure has gone global. Pikmin 3 Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch has sold 1.91 copies worldwide, eclipsing Pikmin for the GameCube, the previous record holder. Pikmin 3 Deluxe is a port of Pikmin 3 for the Wii U, which came out in 2013. Despite being a port of an eight-year-old game for one of Nintendo’s biggest financial blunders in modern memory, it has surprisingly sold almost two million copies. That’s quite an accomplishment. Some may complain that there are too many ports for the Nintendo Switch, but, the Wii U sold so poorly. This gives players the opportunity to play games they never did in the previous generation, which is a good thing. And even if the complaints about the amount of ports on the system were valid, the sales numbers say differently. These games have, for the most part, done very well sales-wise. First-party games for Nintendo systems are always excellent, so business-wise this makes a lot of sense. Let’s just hope we get ports of Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD for the Switch for Zelda’s 35th anniversary.
