Fans of Civilization 6 should be pleased to know that a local hotseat multiplayer is coming to the Nintendo Switch. The game’s official Twitter account revealed that this feature is set to come in an upcoming update. Up to 12 people can play the game at once on one system. This means that users are able to pass around the controller, or the console itself, to take their own turn. Take a look at the official tweet below:

At launch, the game was only able to support local multiplayer for up to four players. No online mode was featured due to it “causing a significant amount of back end work,” according to the game’s developer. This is also why an online portion is not available for mobile devices. Despite this, the hotseat option is an attempt to rectify this issue with the game.
Sid Meier’s Civilization 6 features 24 different leaders from throughout history, including Cleopatra from Egypt and Trajan of Rome. The Nintendo Switch version of the game comes packed with four additional pieces of DLC. These include the Vikings, Poland, Australia, Persia and Macedon Civilization and Scenario Packs. A local multiplayer mode is available as well for four systems to link together and play matches.
Civilization 6 is available now for $59.99.
