A Fullmetal Alchemist live-action teaser trailer has been released. The film is set to come out in winter of 2017. Filming was completed in late August. The story will be told in one film as opposed to other anime live-action adaptations like Attack on Titan. While the film is utilizing Japanese actors, the setting is European-based and there will never be any indication that the characters are Japanese. Ed, originally 15 in the manga, was aged up for this adaptation and is now 20 years old.

When asked about the film, director Fumihiko Sori had some pretty passionate words about the project.
“I want to create a style that follows the original manga as much as possible. The cast is entirely Japanese, but the cultural background is Europe. However, it’s a style that doesn’t represent a specific race or country.
“There will never be a scene in which a character says something that would identify him/her as Japanese.
“It is my dearest wish to turn this wonderful story into a film, and it is not an exaggeration to say that I am living for this reason.”
Fullmetal Alchemist is one of the most beloved manga and anime to ever be released in Japan, so we are very excited to see if the film lives up to expectations.
