It’s never easy to pick the 5 most anticipated games at E3. The Electronic Entertainment Expo has dwindled over the last several years, with many exhibitors pulling out of the show entirely. The most noticible absentee from this year’s show is Sony, which promises to have some of the biggest titles in the latter half of 2019. Regardless of this though, there are still many games to be had at this year’s show. Nintendo promises to have a stellar showing, along with Microsoft and various third-party developers. It promises to be a delight and gamers will have their first glimpse of what’s to come in the latter half of this year. So what are the most-anticipated games of E3 2019? We have you covered!
Gears 5
Gears of War 4 was one of our favorite games of 2016, and Gears 5 shows the same promise as its predecessor. Kait is now taking on the mantle of protaginist, as it is hinted that she is related to Queen of the Locusts, Myrrah, from the original trilogy. This is in stark contrast to the protagonist of Gears 4, Marcus’ son. The game promises to change things up from its predecessors in terms of gameplay and will continue to innovate the series further. As it was unveiled at E3 2018, a demo is long overdue. This will help build up hype before the game’s 2019 release date. It also is a Microsoft exclusive, which is important to point out, as this is an area where Microsoft has been lacking as of late.
Pokemon Sword and Shield
While Pokemon games are not typically shown at E3, Nintendo broke that tradition last year by showing Pokemon Let’s Go! for the Nintendo Switch. Given that Sword and Shield are comng out for Nintendo’s flagship system, it would be a wasted opportunity to not showcase the game at E3 this year, considering it is one of their major titles coming out for 2019. It is also the most-anticipated Pokemon game ever, and promises not to disappoint. Game Freak has been hard at work on the title and E3 is the perfect venue to showcase the culmination of 20 years worth of work.
Call of Duty 2019
There is no doubt that the newest Call of Duty game will be present at E3 2019. It is all but confirmed that this game will be the newest entry in the Modern Warfare series, and simply titled Modern Warfare. This will bring fans back to the franchise who had been disillusioned with the franchise in recent years, especially in the wake of Infinite Warfare and the lack of a campaign in Black Ops IIII. While no details are known about the title as of yet, it has a once-Call of Duty Fan excited for the first time in a long time.
Animal Crossing Switch
Animal Crossing was announced for a 2019 release date and given Nintendo is focusing on 2019 releases at E3 2019, it makes perfect sense to showcase Animal Crossing, one of Nintendo’s most beloved franchises, at E3. It has been years since Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and fans of the franchise have been quenching for more ever since. The announcement of Animal Crossing for the Nintendo Switch was a welcome surprise and it will no doubt be shown at E3. What innovations have been added to the series after all these years?
Link’s Awakening Remake
The Link’s Awakening remake was a story we broke over a year before its initial unveil. It was originally slated for the Nintendo 3DS, but development was shifted over to the Nintendo Switch, causing the game’s delay. Link’s Awakening is a classic and no game in the Zelda franchise deserves a reimagining more than the GameBoy’s first entry in the Zelda franchise. While the artstyle may turn off some, it’s unique and charming, and fans have been clamoring for a top-down Zelda for the Nintendo Switch ever since it was announced. This may be the best game shown at E3 and after released, it will no doubt go down as a classic.
