Yacht Club Games has announced that their hit 2D platformer, Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, will receive its final update with Shovel Knight Showdown. This is set to be a local-only co-op battle mode where players can take control of multiple characters from the main game. Showdown is a free expansion that can be downloaded by owners of all versions of the game, except the Vita and 3DS. A release date for it is expected to come later this week, along with news about the King of Cards expansion. The company’s press release can be found below.
“Duel with up to 4 players and scramble after gems as your favorite heroic or villainous knight in Shovel Knight Showdown. All the classic Shovel Knight characters you know and love are playable, many for the first time ever! Gather your pals for endless multiplayer clashes, or take control of your favorite character and dig into Story Mode. Familiar controls, items, and mechanics return, making this a platform fighting game that anyone can jump into and try.
Shovel Knight Showdown features local only multiplayer, and arrives as a free update to all existing versions of Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove on consoles and PC. It will not be available on portable platforms (3DS and Vita). It will also be made available as a standalone game!”
Don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten about King of Cards or the Treasure Trove amiibo 3-pack! We’re nearing the end of development on what is by far our biggest and most grandest singleplayer campaign yet!

Shovel Knight first released in 2014 for the Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation Vita, and Wii U. It received rave reviews and proved to be a highly successful Kickstarter campaign for the development team. An officially licensed amiibo was later released to provide extra functions on the Nintendo versions of the game.
