Kotaru Uchikoshi’s upcoming masterpiece (hopefully it is), AI the Somnium Files has been delayed. It was initially supposed to come out on July 25 of this year, but is now releasing on September 17 in North America. Uchikoshi is the mastermind behind the Zero Escape trilogy which entailed 999Virtue’s Last Reward, and Zero Time Dilemma. We got the chance to meet Uchikoshi at Anime Expo 2018 and previewed his upcoming game. Uchikoshi detailed the reasons for the delay in a Facebook post.

One is “I would like to deliver AI to everyone as quickly as possible.” And the other is “I want you to play AI with the best and perfect quality.” It was really an agonizing decision that we chose the latter. We would appreciate your understanding and cooperation. Could you please give us two more months…? Then we absolutely promise to give you the best and perfect game. We are really very sorry for everyone looking forward to AI.

Uchikoshi’s reasoning is the correct one. While I personally cannot wait for this game, as it is my most anticipated title of 2019, if it means that the game will be better for it, two months is not that long to wait. Uchikoshi has a track record of releasing excellent titles. Zero Time Dilemma was actually our 2016 Game of the Year, which was unexpected, but it was that good of a game.

AI: The Somnium Files will be released on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam on September 17, 2019.
