While it was nowhere to be seen at E3 2021, Nintendo has assured us that Bayonetta 3 does indeed still exist. Even moreso than that, it’s “progressing well.” Since its announcement on December 7 2017, three-and-a-half years ago, it’s been notably absent with no updates nor footage shown, cinematics or otherwise. Well, in an interview with GameSpot, Nintendo did give a bit of an update on the title. Nintendo’s Treehouse Live’s Nate Bihldorff emphatically stated that the game did, in fact, still exist. Bill Trinen, longtime Nintendo employee, then stated “I will even go one further and say not only does it exist, but it’s progressing well.” Trinen also went on to say this.
“We like to show things when we’re ready to show them. And certainly we like to show things when the developers are ready to show them. We didn’t have it here at E3, but stay tuned.”
While in all likelihood the game does still exist for the Nintendo Switch, this is classic PR talk. It means absolutely nothing. There was also an interview where the director for Bayonetta 3 claimed they hadn’t shown anything due to Nintendo, so the two are contradicting each other. The game will be shown, eventually, but like Metroid Prime 4, it won’t be for a while. The two games should never have been announced in the first place.
