As one of gaming’s annual inevitabilities, the Call of Duty series has found an increased need to shake things up with its more recent installments. The series can only ride a zeitgeist for so long. At E3, Call of Duty‘s upcoming entry Infinite Warfare already revealed ways by which it plans to reinvent long-established trends within the series, but it seems the sci-fi shooter had a few more surprises waiting up its sleeve. In an absolutely loony reveal, the new Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare zombies trailer unleashes a wave of 80’s nostalgia on unsuspecting gamers.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare — Zombies in Spaceland serves as the newest approach to the series’ highly popular Zombies mode. With bright neon, ultra-stylized weapons, a guest-starring David Hasselhoff, and a hit by Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Zombies in Spaceland‘s debut trailer reveals an unapologetically silly 1980’s setting. You can watch the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Zombies trailer for yourself below.
Some commenters under the trailer’s YouTube video have expressed their dissatisfaction with this new Zombies gimmick, as it seems too silly or too childish. But for someone that absolutely adores the 80’s aesthetic like myself, Zombies in Spaceland‘s focus on pure irreverent fun seems like the perfect choice for Infinity Ward. Sure, the stereotypical characters may be a bit too on the nose, but the trailer clearly shows a devotion and love for the 1980’s setting the game attempts to capture.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, including Zombies in Spaceland, is set for release on November 4 for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
