During a live stream event, Sega has announced that Yakuza Kiwami 2 will be coming to the west later this year, 2018. The game will be releasing exclusively on the PlayStation 4 this August 28, 2018. The game takes place immediately after the events of the first game. Yakuza Kiwami 2 is a remake of the second game in the series and had been previously released in Japan. The plot of this game is detailed as follows from Sega’s website:
Kazuma Kiryu thought his Tojo Clan days were behind him. He and his young ward, Haruka Sawamura, have built a peaceful life from the ashes of conflict. All it took was a single gunshot to shatter that peace. Yukio Terada, the fifth chairman of the Tojo Clan, has been assassinated. With war on the horizon, the legendary Dragon of Dojima is pulled back into the world he wanted to leave behind.
The game will also feature a new scenario that will fill in the gap between the first and second games. The series has spanned across three console generations starting with the PlayStation 2 and has numerous spinoffs. The series’ main protagonist, Kiryu, will come to see his story’s conclusion in the upcoming Yakuza 6: The Song of Life. This game has been delayed to April 17 for Western audiences, but is available in Japan.
