Ready or not, the Decetive Pikachu Movie is coming. Detective Pikachu was originally a video game released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2016. Unlike traditional Pokemon titles, Detective Pikachu is a spin-off game where you aid a talking Pikachu in solving mysteries and crime. To make things even stranger, this odd spin-off game is now receiving a live action film adaptation from Warner Bros. Pictures.

The trailer has been met with mixed reception from Pokemon fans as some of the characters involved look less cute and more terrifying being placed in a real world setting with a more realistic design. Others however are much more optimistic for this fresh new take on the Pokemon franchise in a bold new direction. This movie alongside its respective video game mark the first time we’ve heard Pikachu speaking English, and his voice is provided by the incredibly talented and handsome Ryan Reynolds.

The film is slated for release sometime in 2019, which will give you plenty of time to pick up a copy of Detective Pikachu and try it out for yourself if you haven’t already. It’s unclear how closely the film plans on following the game, if at all. What will be even more interesting is seeing how this will perform in theaters and if it will have any impact on future video game films, especially those from Nintendo. Will you be checking out the Detective Pikachu movie?
