Tom Holland has hyped up Spider-Man 3, calling it the “most ambitious standalone superhero film ever made.” With rumors floating around that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield are returning to the franchise to play Spider-Man as well, he may very well be right. It’s been confirmed that Andrew Garfield is in Atlanta right now, just as filming for Spider-Man 3 is occurring. It’s been long rumored that Maguire and Garfield are returning for the flick, but the rumor does have credence. Alfred Molina, from Maguire’s Spider-Man 2, and Jamie Foxx, from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, are both returning for the film in their respective roles as Doc Ock and Electro. This would indicate there is a multiverse aspect to the film. Throw in the fact that Benedict Cumberbatch is in the film, presumably as Doctor Strange, gives even more credence to this theory. Here are Tom Holland’s own words.
“I can say that it’s the most ambitious standalone superhero movie ever made. You sit down, read the script, and see what they’re trying to do, and they’re succeeding. It’s really impressive. I’ve never seen a standalone superhero movie quite like it.”
What would be a more ambitious Spider-Man film that incorporates all of the former Spider-Men from the past 20 years? Tobey Maguire was great in the role, as was Andrew Garfield; the only difference is Garfield had subpar scripts and story to work with. Tom Holland has been a fantastic younger version of the character, and if he says Spider-Man 3 is the most ambitious standalone superhero movie of all-time, who are we to argue? With so many actors from over the years returning, it’s poised to become one of the greatest superhero films of all-time. The casting lends credence to the fact that Maguire and Garfield are reprising their roles as our favorite web-slinger. We sure are hyped for the film.
Spider-Man 3 will release on December 17, 2021, barring any delays.
