It has been officially confirmed that the trailer for Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi will air during Monday Night Football on October 9. The official Star Wars Twitter account confirmed it and Good Morning America’s Twitter posted an 11 second teaser of the trailer. While it is only 11 seconds long, it ends with what for long-time fans will be a very emotional moment: Luke getting Anakin’s lightsaber back after losing it in a duel with Darth Vader 30 years earlier. This is a moment fans have been waiting for ever since the end of The Force Awakens. Thinking about the history of the Saber; Anakin’s duel with Obi-Wan, the slaughter of the Jedi, the battle with Count Dooku, the confrontation with Palpatine, not to mention Luke receiving it from Obi-Wan and ultimately losing his hand to his father, much like his father lost his own arm. The emotions are overwhelming for any fan of the Saga.

While this is only an extremely short snippet of the trailer for The Last Jedi, one can’t help but be utterly ecstatic. Fans have waited two years for this trailer. Regardless of how much plot is revealed (hopefully not much), I just want to see Luke speak on camera. I want to see what direction Rian Johnson is taking Star Wars in, and from all accounts he has done an incredible job. The trailer releases Monday night, but thankfully December 15 isn’t too much of a wait to see the latest installment in the Star Wars franchise.
