It has long been rumored, but has now been confirmed that an Obi-Wan television series starring Ewan McGregor is coming to Disney’s streaming service, Disney+. While these rumors have been circulating for months, Deadline has confirmed that these reports are, in fact, true. It will be a six-part limited series and will span the time between the end of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. What’s even better is that Ewan is now the perfect age to play Obi-Wan Kenobi in his later years, as, Alec Guinness was about 60 years old when he played the older Obi-Wan, and Ewan is now 48. If the series takes place 10 years after Revenge of the Sith, this is perfect.
Now as to what the plot of the series would be? That’s up in the air. It’s unlikely that it will be Obi-Wan biding his time in the desert awaiting Luke to come of age. In fact, Luke may even make a cameo, which would be unexpected, but a nice twist on things. There is no doubt Obi-Wan had adventures in the 19 years he hid from the Empire, and hopefully, the series plays with that in an unforeseen way.
This is the film, not Solo, that everyone wanted. Is Star Wars on its way back to prosperity? Who knows, but hopefully the series doesn’t disappoint.
