This year’s San Diego Comic-Con has already given some big reveals. One of the biggest, however, is that The Walking Dead’s titular character, Rick Grimes, will exit the show after this season. Andrew Lincoln and company confirmed this during the show’s Hall H panel.

Lincoln has been a staple of the series since the show’s inception back in 2010. The show has revolved around Rick Grimes and how he is able to lead a group of survivors through a zombie apocalypse. Fans have been able to see the character go through many hardships, from waking up from a coma to making tough decisions as the group’s leader. It will all culminate in this next season.
The actor later went on to state his regret for this reveal, believing fans deserved better than the leaks.
“There is a certain sense of relief this morning … but I still regret that the story broke, because I believe in story and I think it would have been… it’s gonna be a great season but it would have been greater if it was not spoiled to a degree.”
At the end of the panel, AMC treated fans to a trailer for the upcoming season.
