Gearbox has officially announced that Borderlands 3 is on the way. The highly-anticipated fourth entry in the franchise has been hinted at for months by the developer, but today they’ve finally come clean. Gamers were treated to teasers leading up to this week’s PAX East and can view the full trailer below:

Borderlands 3’s trailer was filled to the brim with gameplay footage and hints for what’s to come in this next installment. This game’s four playable Vault Hunters were displayed and showed off what each are capable of. Alongside this, what looks to be the game’s primary villains, The Calypso Twins, were noticed, and are said to have Siren-like powers. Much to fan’s delights, many returning characters are present, such as Zer0, Sir Hammerlock, Lilith, Marcus, an older Tiny Tina, and yes, Claptrap is back. What’s most surprising is the appearance of Rhys from Telltale’s Tales from the Borderlands. His role in the story is yet to be known.

Borderlands 3 Announced

Gearbox’s upcoming entry may be the most ambitious yet. The developer has already stated that over one billion guns are going to be featured, as well as a slew of new worlds. Randy Pitchford of Gearbox also said that this title has been in development for five years. A release date has not been unveiled just yet, though. More information is set to come on April 3. In the meantime, fans can experience Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition Remastered is releasing for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and free to owners of the original on PC, next week.
